Your Role as Student Engagement Assistant:

As a Student Engagement Assistant, you will play a significant role in ensuring the participating students, teachers and volunteers have a successful and engaging day. The Student Engagement Assistant works directly with fifth or eighth grade students, teachers, parent volunteers, college students, and corporate volunteer teams. This position is responsible for supervising and supporting volunteers, students, and teachers during their participation in Experiential Learning Simulations (JA Biztown and JA Finance Park). The Student Engagement Assistant ensures that all participants are engaged, informed, and effectively guided throughout the day to ensure a successful learning experience.

 

Hours could be up to 28 hours per week, and days are flexible depending on schedules.

 

This position reports to the Experiential Learning Program Manager, and is a key member of the JA team, ensuring that students learn and thrive during their experience with Junior Achievement of South Florida.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Daily preparation of technology and program materials prior to student and volunteer arrival.
  • Lead and assist students, volunteers, and teachers during their one-day simulation.
  • Guide students and volunteers as they use tablets and computers to complete the program.
  • Review responsibilities and tasks throughout the day and be available to help guide them through the program.
  • Ensure the students, teachers and volunteers complete the program activities in a timely manner according to the day’s schedule.
  • Assist in keeping facilities organized, ensuring the program areas are maintained for overall safety.
  • Complete a quality and timely reset of program materials, tablets, and computers ensuring all areas are fully prepared for the next day.
  • Organize and assist Junior Achievement staff by maintaining storefronts and preparing for student visits.
  • Assist in general Tech and IT troubleshooting during simulation day.
  • Assist with storage, distribution, and inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Assist with Volunteer Training and Teacher Trainings as required.
  • Attend required training sessions throughout the program year.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

âś” The skills that will encourage success in your application include:

  • Must be able to stand for 6 full hours.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Must have at least one of year basic computer experience, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, students, volunteers, and fellow staff.
  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students (teaching, youth work and/or training).
  • Ability to help students and volunteers use a browser-based simulation program on tablets and computers.
  • Must be comfortable engaging and leading large groups.
  • Resourceful in solving problems.
  • Maintain a positive and encouraging attitude.
  • Show patience and adaptability when working with students.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Foreign language proficiency, either in Spanish or Creole is a plus.
  • Ability to pass a background check for working with children.
  • Conduct oneself in the best interest of students, teachers, and volunteers in accordance with the values and mission of Junior Achievement of South Florida.
  • CPR Certified (can be provided if needed).
  • Able to lift 25 lbs.
